New Delhi: The probe into the mysterious deaths of 11 of a family in Burari has found that the family was very superstitious, and that one member thought the world was about to end. Notes recovered at the crime scene are providing investigators a peek into the paranoia which seems to have gripped the family, reported NDTV.

According to the police, Narayan Devi’s youngest son, Lalit Chundawa, 45, was the mastermind behind the “mass suicide”, with Chundawa jotted down “instructions” from his father who had died 10 years ago. He began writing these notes in 2015, said the report.

Chundawa had taken a vow of silence a few years ago, but had recently started talking about “visits” from his dead father. One of his notes prophesised doomsday. The entry read: “Antim samay mein, aakhri ichha ki purti ke waqt, aasman hilegi dharti kaanpegi, us waqt tum ghabrana mat, mantra ka jaap badha dena, mein aakar utar loonga aur ko bhi utarne mein madad karunga (in your last hours, while your last wish is fulfilled, the skies will open up and the earth will shake, don’t panic but start chanting the mantra louder.

I will come to save you, I will bring you down and help with the others too). The police said Lalit believed this to be advice from his father and he allegedly told everyone in the family to follow it. The family was very superstitious and apparently believed that the end of the world was coming.
