Kerala police have been put on high alert after intelligence reports that a Hindu organisation based in Tamil Nadu proposes to send 40 young women to Sabarimala.

According to sources, South Zone ADGP Anil Kant, based on an intelligence report has conveyed the message to officers at Pampa, Sannidhanam as also Pathanamthiitta and Kottayam.

Sabarimala has remained generally calm during the season with the CPM-led Government not keen on pushing its agenda of letting young women in the 10-50 age group to make it to the shrine after the September 28 verdict of the Supreme Court.

The BJP-RSS combine, spearheading the protests that were violent when the shrine opened twice after the verdict is lying low and leading a political agitation against the Government outside the State Secretariat in Thiruvananthapuram.

What is disturbing the police is that the secret report received says the outfit Hindu Makkal Katchi plans to make the women enter the Vavaru mosque at Erumeli, frequented by pilgrims to Sabarimala and seen as an example of communal harmony.

Police claim the report has details of the functionaries and it remains to be seen how they plan to bring them into the mosque and then proceed to Sabarimala.

As per an unofficial understanding, police have been instructed to dissuade young women to make it to the shrine and send them back. This is to ensure peace at Sabarimala.

The Supreme Court is to consider on January 22 a series of 49 review petitions against the September 28 verdict.

The report has the names of the outfit leaders Arjun Sampath and Somu Rajasekharan.

However the leader of the Hindu Makka Katchi (HMK) Arjun Sampath told The Covai Post that the women’s wing of the HMK had made this statement earlier when the Communist government had brought in Rehana Fathima and Sweety Mary to enter Sabarimala with an intention to tarnish the sanctity of the temple.

The women’s wing at Thiruvarur had then stated that if non Hindus were deliberately brought in to hurt religious sentiments then they would congregate 40 women from TN to enter the Vavaru mosque at Erumeli.

He however clarified that the women had no plans to enter Sabarimala and that HMK cadres will give their life to protect the sanctity of the temple.
