Coimbatore : Gowsalya, the widow of a Dalit youth Shankar who was done to death, a clear case of honour killing some two years ago, on Sunday entered into wedlock with a percussion artist in the city.

The marriage was solemnised by exchanging garlands in the presence ofThanthai Periyar Dravida Kazhakam (TPDK) General Secretary, Ramakrishnan at his officer in Gandhipuram in the city.

The couple- Gowsalya and Shakthi, a Parai artist , traditional percussionst, was blessed by leaders of many progressive organisations, including president of Dravidar Viduthalai Kazhakam, Kolathur Mani TPDK sources said.

The 22-year old Shankar was hacked to death by an armed gang on 13 March 2016, eight months after he married Kausalya (21) a caste-Hindu, while they were proceeding to the bus stand in Udumalpet in Tirupur district, the CCTV footage of which had gone viral.

Six men were sentenced to death for the ‘honour’ killing, including the father of Kausalya, who survived the attack. She is now fighting for social justice and against caste discrimination.

Both the family members–Kausalya’s father in law and brothers in law and Shaktis relatives– have supported the marriage, TPDK sources said.
