West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday launched a volley of attacks on Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar and called him a “corrupt” man whose name “was in the chargesheet of Jain Hawala case”.

Mamata Banerjee also said that she has written three letters for the removal of West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhakhar.

“I have written three letters for removal of West Bengal Governor. He is a corrupt man, his name was in the chargesheet of Hawala Jain case in 1996,” CM Mamata Banerjee said on Monday during a press conference.

“Why should he dictate even after our government getting a huge mandate?” Mamata Banerjee added.

The Hawala scandal, also known as the Jain Diaries case or the was a hawala scam of the 1990s involving payments allegedly sent by politicians through four hawala brokers, namely the Jain brothers. It was a $18 million scandal that involving some of the country’s leading politicians.

Meanwhile, Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar has announced that he will be addressing a press conference at 6.30 pm at Raj Bhawan today.

All is not well between the TMC-led West Bengal government and Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar. Last week, sources said that the TMC is planning to pass a resolution in the state assembly against Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar.

The Mamata Banerjee-led party is planning to demand his removal, sources said, adding that discussions on the same are underway. Chief Minister Banerjee also discussed the issue with assembly Speaker Biman Banerjee as well.

The assembly session in the state will begin on July 2.

West Bengal Assembly Speaker Biman Banerjee also complained to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla last week about ‘excessive interference’ by Governor Dhankhar in parliamentary matters and the functioning of the assembly.
