All efforts are being taken to capture live the maneater which, after mauling to death a migrant estate worker, was moving around in Devarsolai area, a senior district official said today.

As part of the efforts, 48 cameras and nine cages have been placed at strategic points, the possible route and six goats and two cows have also been kept tied-up to lure the tiger, Nilgiris District Revenue Officer, M Bhaskarapandiayn told reporters here.

Three teams have been formed to trace the carnivore, with veterinarian and tranquilising experts sitting atop trees for easy monitoring and operation, he said.

The pictures caputed in two cameras suggested that the tiger has injuries at five places and deep cut on left leg, which slowed down its movement, District Forest Officer, Tejaswi, who was also present, said.

The worker, Magu, hailing from Jharkhand, was mauled to death two days ago, while he was returning home from the estate.

Meanwhile, a cheque for rs.3.5 lakh, as solatiium from the State Government was handed over to the family of the deceased.
