A 17-year old girl committed suicide in her house in Kuniyamuthur in the city over because her parents didn’t get her a cell phone.

Shruthi, waiting for the Class XII examination results, was asking her parents for the past few months to get her a cell phone. Her father is working abroad and her mother had reportedly promised her to get a cell phone after completing the exams.

When the girl reminded her mother of her promise, the mother delayed it. The mother and daughter had an argument over it last evening.

When the mother returned home after shopping, she was shocked to see her daughter hanging dead in her room. The police were informed, who rushed to the house and recovered the body, which was sent for post-mortem.

A case has been filed.
