The Price Forecasting Scheme of the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University has predicted no significant changes in the price of good quality sorghum grains this September. According to the department, the prices are expected to remain stable at Rs.22 to Rs.24 per kilo.

Based on the prices that prevailed in Tirupur Regulated Market for the past 13 years, the department said that there will not be any major fluctuations in the prices.

India produces 5.05 million tonnes of sorghum annually, with Maharashtra, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Haryana as the main contributors.

In Tamil Nadu, sorghum is widely cultivated in Dindigul, Coimbatore, Salem, Karur and Tiruppur.
