DMK chief M. Karunanidhi on Monday came down heavily on the Tamil Nadu police for failing to control violence in Coimbatore and Tirupur districts after Hindu Munnani activist Sasikumar was murdered on September 22.

Condoling the death, Karunanidhi condemned the violence in the textile city caused by “hired goons”.

Stating that the police should nab those who killed Sasikumar and should not allow Hindu Munnani cadre to take law into their hands, Karunanidhi recalled custodial death of a youth in Chennai.

“In Kannagi Nagar in Chennai, a 21-year-old youth died after he was detained for questioning. It is said that police tried to bribe the youth’s relatives to stop them from filing a complaint”, he said.
