30-year-old elephant found dead on rail track

A 30-year old elephant was found dead on the railway track between Walayar and Vattaparai in Kerala, some 7 km from the Tamil Nadu border.
Passersby noticed the male elephant lying across the B line track with bleeding injuries on its head, police said.
Forest department officials and police from Kerala rushed to the spot.
The train going towards Palakkad from the city may have hit the pachyderm, leading to its death, they said.
