The Mahila Court today sentenced a construction work to undergo 10 years Rigorous Imprisonment, for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl, four years ago.
The girl was staying in Rathinapuri, with her mother, who was deserted by her husband. The mother developed an illicit relationship with construction worker, Murugan, who started to live with them in the same house.
Murugan sexually assaulted the girl, when she was alone in the house, on August 18, 2012 and continued with it for another three weeks and threatened her of dire consequences if she complained about this. But she disclosed the incident to her school teacher on September 9, who lodged a complaint with All Women Police Station and Childline.
Based on the complaint, police arrested Murugan the next day and lodged in the Central Jail.
The case was tried in the Mahila Court, and the judge, G Raja, today delivered the judgement, in which Murugan was ordered to undergo sentence for 10 years and pay a fine of Rs.5,000.
The judge also ordered two years imprisonment for threatening the girl. The sentences will run concurrently.
