Ooty: A 15-year-old elephant was found electrocuted today on the fence of a private coffee estate in Cherampadi coming under Mango Forest Range in Gudalur, some 80 kilometres from Ooty.

The workers on their way to work in the morning noticed the pachyderm lying dead, on the fence, which was reportedly connected to direct electricity power. Senior forest department and Electricity Board officials rushed to the spot, accompanied by two veterinarians, Dr. Prabhu and Dr. Kaliyappan, who conducted the post mortem and buried the male elephant.

Since the fence was connected to direct current, the Electricity Board officials and police are in search for the estate owners. Once found, cases will be filed against them.
