Agriculture sector in Tamil Nadu has scaled new heights during the last five years under AIADMK rule, led by Chief
Minister, Jayalalithaa, the State Agriculture Minister, R Duraikannu said.

The state has achieved a record agriculture production of 1.30 crore tonnes during last year, for which the Centre had given the State the coveted “Krishi Karman” award, Duraikannu said.

Speaking at a workshop organised as part of ongoing AgriIntex here, he said that the waiver of farmers’ loans to the tune of Rs.5,780 crore was a milestone in the history of agriculture sector in the
country.

In his address, the Municipal Adminsitration Minister, S P Velumani said that Jayalalithaa governmen, during the last five years has provided cooperative loans worth over Rs.23,000 crore, for the benefit of farmers.

The agriculture production has increased by 63 per cent over the estimated 1.27 crore tonnes, he said.

Meanwhile, a group of AIADMK workers expressed unhappiness against the organisers for not not displaying the photograph of Chief Minister in the banners displayed at the venue.

Despite Tamil Nadu Agricultural University being the joint organiser, along with Coimbatore District Small Industries Association, the invitation also did not carry the photograph of Jayalalithaa, they said.
