Thanjavur: Activists of the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) staged a demonstration in front of the taluk office here today urging the revenue authorities to issue house-site patta for poor people.

Led by the Association’s District President R Kalaiselvi, the demonstrators raised slogans condemning the apathy of revenue officials towards their just demand.

“We have been organising various agitations for the past five years demanding house-site pattas. Despite repeated pleas to the district administration, no action has been taken. Every time we stage an agitation, the revenue officials give assurance that they would provide house-site pattas but they have not kept their promise,” Kalaiselvi said.

The AIDWA activists had originally planned to besiege the taluk office but dropped the plan after the revenue officials held talks with them and gave them assurance that steps would be taken soon to provide house-site pattas to all the eligible petitioners after identifying the suitable sites.
