Following the footsteps of Ward #57 and the Coimbatore International Airport are the residents of an apartment complex located in Ramanathapuram. They will meet and very soon set up Coimbatore’s third My Waste My Responsibility kiosk in the area.
The first My Waste My Responsibility Kiosk was set up in Ward #57. The residents of GV Residency, of the ward, did not want to send any waste to the dumpyard. This prompted the residents to segregate the waste into kitchen and other dry waste, and bio-hazardous waste before disposing. The segregated waste is then handed over to the person appointed by Residents Awareness Association of Coimbatore (RAAC). In order to facilitate the speedy collection of waste, RAAC has purchased a battery-operated vehicle. The vehicle collects segregated waste from the 250-plus homes in the ward.
The second My Waste My Responsibility Kiosk model was inaugurated at the Coimbatore International Airport by the Commissioner Dr. K. Vijaya Karthikeyan, of the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation. In a mission to take waste management to the next level by thorough processing, segregation, and safe disposal of waste generated, the kiosk was inaugurated at the airport premises and it continues to ensure that waste from the Coimbatore International Airport is disposed of responsibly.
As a part of the My Waste My Responsibility project, persons employed by NGO RAAC collect waste that is generated at the Coimbatore International Airport two times during the day. The waste that is collected is transported to a segregation unit. In this way, tons of plastic and paper that are used in aircrafts are safely recycled in the unit.
The Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation is lending a helping hand to residents who wish to get involved in disposing the waste in a responsible manner. For enquiries on setting up a My Waste My Responsibility kiosk in your residential area, kindly contact 99441-43597.
