Members of various organizations staged a demonstration near the South Taluk Office on Friday demanding a ban on the Akhil Baratiya Vidhya Parishad (ABVP), for its involvement in the suicide of Rohith Vemula, a student of the Hyderabad Central University.

R. Rathika, the District Secretary of All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA), alleged that ABVP is trying to raise caste-based and religious issues in Indian campuses, adding that it should be banned immediately. “The suicide of Vemula is the outcome of anti-national activities carried out by the ABVP in the university. This is happening all over the country too,” she alleged.

She further stated that those who were responsible for the suicide, including Minister for Human Resource and Development Smriti Irani, Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya, Vice Chancellor of the University Appa Rao, BJP Legislator N. Ramachandra Rao, and ABVP member Kumar, should be arrested under the SC/ST Act.

District president of Anti-Discrimination Front Aruchamy, and K.S. Kanagaraj, the District Secretary of the Democratic Youth Federation of India, also participated in the agitation.
