Seeking justice in the triple suicide case in Villupuram where three women students of a private college committed suicide by jumping into a well on Saturday, members of the Campus Front of India (CFI) staged a blindfold demonstration at the District Collectorate here on Monday.
It may be noted that three students, namely E. Saranya (18), V. Priyanka (18) and T. Monisha (19), studying naturopathy course at the SVS Yoga Medical College committed suicide on Saturday leaving behind a suicide note that the college administration was extracting exorbitant fees from the students.
They had also mentioned that they were being treated indifferently by the Chairman of the College, Vasuki Subramanian as she had abused them and called them “criminals” in a suicide letter, allegedly written by them.
Seeking justice for the students and prevent such activities in the future, the members of CFI also petitioned the District Collector Archana Patnaik asking her to recommend an investigation by the State Government.
They have also stated that the Government should take stern action against the institution for not providing basic facilities and also compensate the families for the loss.
“There are many such colleges in Coimbatore that collect exorbitant fee from the students. Hence we request the government to take a list of the colleges that are involved in such malpractices and take action,” said a member.
