With Britain exiting from the European Union, the Tirupur Exporters Association (T.E.A) has suggested that India should begin negotiating with the U.K. for Free Trade Agreement (F.T.A).
In a media statement, T.E.A president, A. Shaktivel said that India has been facing a
lot of issues like the T.R.I.P.S., pharmaceutical, automobile, visa, including movement of professionals, with the European Union which consisted of 28 countries, including the U.K.
“The exporters feel that starting negotiations as soon as possible will give India an early bird advantage,” he said.
Out of the total garment exports of Rs.1,11,178 crores from India, Tirupur’s share o the U.K amounts to 10.62 percent, at Rs.11,798 crores.
Shaktivel said that, in addition to contacting the Prime Minister, he has also written to Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Commerce Minister Nirmala Seetharaman, and Textile Minister Santoshkumar Gangwar.
