“Such events not only uplift the spirits of married women, in fact they celebrate womanhood. Also, they provide a platform for designers and boutique owners to showcase their work,” says Sruthi Rateria, a designer by profession who runs Devika Designs, a boutique.

Around 27 married women walked the ramp to lay claim to the title of Mrs Queen Coimbatore 2017. Gayathri Natarajan emerged the winner, followed by Rosy Maria as first runner-up and Padma Balamurgan as second runner-up.

The event was organised by Flora Events and supported by Diamond City Builders, in association with Bharani Pattu Centre, who sponsored the beautiful dresses for the photoshoots.

The Chief Guests were Jaya Mahesh, Mrs India Earth 2016, and Sakshi Aggarwal, actress. Other prominent guests were Kalki Subramaniam, transgender activist, and Latha Sundaram, Managing Trustee of Aram Foundation.

Jaya Mahesh in her address, “I appreciate Reshma Srijay, founder of Flora Events, who has given an opportunity to so many married women to showcase their talents.”

A. Arundhati, one the attendees at the event said, “Such events boost our spirits, but I’m sceptical as to what level the winner will use the title for the betterment of society in the real sense.”

The contest consisted of five rounds; the first two were talent round and grooming round, which were conducted earlier.

Of the remaining three rounds conducted today at the event, in the first round, contestants walked in designer wear along with their designers. Second was the traditional round, in which contestants walked the ramp in silk sarees sponsored by Bharani Pattu, followed by the final aptitude round.
