The local chapter of Cheshire Home, a charitable organisation providing care and shelter for the differently-abled people, has initiated a certificate course for persons with disabilities.
Cheshire Home chairman, C. Ravi Selvan told reporters that the “Generic Skill Development Course” is a job-preparedness and mobility training course before going to any permanent employment.
The training program, a joint initiative with Sri Ramakrishna Mission University (a faculty of Disability management) in Periyanaickenpalayam near Coimbatore, includes three segments – theory, practical sessions, and internship training at the employers’ place, Ravi Selvan said.
This is a university-recognised certificate course for those with orthopaedic impairment and sight impairment, who have completed Class XII, between the ages of 18 and 35 years.
Stating that 30 students have been identified for the first batch of the 45-day course, he said that the classes will commence on July 21 at the University campus. The students will be trained in garment making, engineering, retailing, and other skills.
