BJP National Secretary, H. Raja, today accused Congress and other opposition parties of making the issue of suicide of Rohit Vemula, the student of University of Hyderabad, into a political one.
Since these parties did not have any issues to pinpoint against the BJP-led Narendra Modi government at the Centre, they were attempting to create problem by making the issue big, Raja told reporters here.
Stating that Prime Minister Modi had already expressed his deep regret over the suicide, Raja said that there was no necessity for continuing the agitation as the loss of a student was the loss of an entire nation.
He termed as ‘anti-socials’ those who were trying to bring caste and politics into education campuses.
When asked about Tamil Nadu government’s stand about prohibition not being possible in the State, Raja said that this was very much possible if the Government took over the sand and granite quarries, which would bring in Rs.10,000 crore more revenue than that generated by the sale of liquor, which amounted to Rs. 28,000 crore.
On electoral alliance, Raja said that this would be decided immediately after the announcement of poll dates, unlike other parties, who were “playing musical chair”.
