ACC got up a function ‘Real Heroes’ to reward those who worked tirelessly to collect, pack, and send relief materials to the flood-hit victims of the state. Dr. K. Vijayakarthikeyan, Corporation Commissioner, was the chief guest, and felicitated individuals and organisations that were involved.

“I reached Coimbatore from Chennai by the last flight that operated at the time of crises. Watching people suffer in various parts of our State was very unfortunate. This prompted and motivated all of us to come together and stand up for a cause. These awards are to recognize the real heroes,” he said.

Among those who were honoured, were the Coimbatore District Home Guards for the services that they rendered at the time of crisis.

On behalf of the Coimbatore District Home Guards, Area Commander Balaji Raju received a memento and certificate from the Commissioner. “The Home Guards sent volunteers along with the relief materials to the flood hit victims across the State just to ensure that they reached the needy safely. We sent about 82 volunteers. Some of them even stayed back in the flood-hit regions and distributed food and relief material to the needy,” M. Jaikumar, Company Commander, Coimbatore District Home Guards, said.

The Commissioner handed over a certificate of appreciation to several other NGOs who worked tirelessly. About 21 individuals who represented educational institutions, corporate houses and media, were honoured for the services that they and their organisation lent.
