Corporation officials today retrieved 61 cents of encroached reserve sites worth Rs.6 crore from ward 19 in the city.
The encroached land came to the notice of Corporation Commissioner Vijay Karthikeyan who, along with the officials, visited the area yesterday. They located ‘seemai karuvelam’ (prosopis julifora) since these trees affected the growth of other plants and water bodies in the vicinity and had to be destroyed.
Based on this, officials went to the area today and retrieved 61cents in Veerakeralam, Linganur and Periya Thotam in the ward, valued at Rs.6 crore, official sources said.
