Police today arrested a couple for their alleged involvement in various cheating cases in Coimbatore and other districts.
According to police, K. Rathika (31) and her husband S. Karthi (32) both from Erode, posed themselves as shareholders of SBI Life Annuity Insurance and collected Rs. 7.74 lakh from Dr. Marichamy of Geethasri Hospital in Saravanampatti and Rs. 2.54 lakh from Dr. Balasubramaniam from Siddapudhur Pragathy Hospital. The couple used fake names while collecting the money from the doctors.
Based on a complaint from the doctors, police arrested Rathika and Karthi and booked them under Sections 120B (criminal conspiracy), 419 (cheating by impersonation), 465, 468, 471, 420 (for forgery of various electronic and print documents and being dishonest) and 506(i) (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code. They were sent to judicial custody.
Since the couple were involved in similar cheating cases at Singanallur and Madurai, police decided to detain them and subsequently they were lodged in the Central Prison here.
