His wish was to reach out to students of Class X and XII from the weaker sections of the society and lend them a helping hand to prepare for the board exams. With this aim the Covai Aram Founded was incepted in the year 2005 by P. Raghuram.

Since its inception, the foundation has been distributing, free of cost, study guides and question banks to the students of various Government Tamil Medium schools. Its founder tells us that 5,000 copies are given away every year in the month of August.

The study guide and question banks are called ‘All in ones,’ and have 730 pages. They are prepared by 10 headmasters of different government schools in the state. “A month after distributing the copies of these books, we conduct mock exams for the students. The answer scripts are exchanged among the various schools. The students are also given feedback on what areas they need to improve,” Raghuram explains.

Mock exams are conducted in English and Maths for the students of Class X and XII.

The foundation also distributes the golden hour booklet. The project was initiated about three years ago. The pocket-size handbook on first aid techniques (in Tamil) are given away to the students belonging to the National Service Scheme (NSS), National Cadet Corps (NCC), and the Youth Red Cross (YRC). Prepared by a group of eight doctors from Coimbatore and Madurai, the 142-page image-added booklet contains a list of do’s and don’ts that must be followed while administering first aid to victims before medical help arrives. Each year, the foundation distributes 2,000 copies to students all through the year.

Covai Aram Foundation has five core members who also fund its projects. Funding for the various initiatives also comes from the 20 members who pay an annual sum.
