Dhanasekar from the Covai Chess Centre won the first place in the KCT District Level Open Chess Tournament held at the Kumaruguru College of Technology here on Sunday.

While the second prize was won by Nandha Kumar from Winner Chess Academy, the third went to Mani Bharathi from Winder Chess Academy.

The competition was held by Dr. N. Mahalingam Chess Academy started earlier this year for popularising this sport. This was the inaugural edition of the tournament conducted by the academy under different age groups.

Around 150 players from in and around the City took part in the competition held under the Swiss-System, which is a non-eliminating format featuring a set number of rounds.

The academy is also to conduct a summer camp for beginners starting from May 8 to 19 at KCT and candidates will be coached by A. Mohammed Yosouff, Joint Secretary of Coimbatore District Chess Association. For registration contact: +919344330084 / +919943612375
