Death sentence for setting ablaze father, daughter

The Mahila Court in nearby Tirupur today awarded capital punishment to two persons for burning to death a man and his daughter some two years ago.

The prosecution case was that a powerloom worker, Thangavel of Palladam and his 11-year old daughter were burnt to death at different places, on October six 2015, reportedly over some financial dispute.

While Thangavel’s body was found near Mangalam, the girl’s body was recovered in Vadavalli in Coimbatore. Postmortem report indicated that the girl was assaulted sexually and was alive when she was burnt.

In his judgement, Mohammed Jiyabutheen awarded death sentence for Selvam of Palladam and Rangaraj of Veerakeralam of Coimbatore, while three others– Daivasigaanai, Nagaraj and Anand, have to undergo imprisonment until death.
