Following fears of the spread of dengue in and around Kovaipudur area, the members of the Lions Club of Smart City today distributed ‘Nilavembu,’ a Siddha medicinal powder, made of Neem and other ingredients, to prevent the dreaded disease.

The project, the first of its kind this year, was inaugurated by Lions District 324-B5 Governor, T.S. Vijayakumar. 600 packets, each containing 25 grams of Nilavembu powder, were given away to the general public at three places in the area.

S. Prabhakaran, the district chairman, Club Observer and media adviser, said that similar programs will be organised in various parts of the city.

Panic began when a few residents of the area developed high fever, requiring the Corporation officials to take steps to clean the area and spray chemicals to drive away mosquitoes, a fortnight ago.

Cabinet Secretary, P. Senthilkannan; Regional Chairman, Dharmaraj; Coimbatore Smart City District Chairman for innovative activities, S Sivaraj; and president, Nandakumar were present at the event.
