Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) president M Karunanidhi has slapped a legal notice to Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) chief Vaiko demanding withdrawal of his statement that DMK had offered money to woo DMDK into their fold.
The notice came against the backdrop of Vaiko’s alleged statement that Karunanidhi offered a lump sum to Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) leader Vijayakanth to join DMK-Congress front for poll alliance.
“Karunanidhi is shocked to hear the false and defamatory statement made by you (Vaiko) at the Madurai airport before a large group of press accusing him of offering money to Vijayakanth, leader of DMDK for joining as an alliance party”, DMK advocate R Dhevi said in the notice.
The notice said that Vaiko’s statement is a motivated one scripted with the only intention to damaging the reputation of the DMK leader and defame him.
Asking Vaiko to withdraw his false accusation made against Karunanidhi, the notice urged Vaiko to express regret for making such false and defamatory statement against DMK chief within seven days.
“Otherwise, our client Karunanidhi will be compelled to initiate criminal action against you for the defamation”, the notice added.
