It has been a childhood fascination that has taken Anjana to heights as an RJ. “The world of media, especially radio, has fascinated me since childhood. The reason being the RJ is not only jovial, but also sensible. From being an ardent radio fan to actually becoming a part of radio, the journey has been very exciting,” Anjana, the jockey of Radio City Chennai told Covai Post on World Radio Day.

“Undoubtedly, this is one of the coolest professions as it lets you be both creative as well as socially responsible,” she adds.

Highlighting the factor about how radio is able to sustain itself in this digital era, RJ Saru of Radio Mirchi, Coimbatore, said, “Radio is something which gives company to a person who is alone or feels lonely which I feel digital media cannot give. In spite of having a good number of song playlists in the phone, people on a long drive prefer to listen radio.”

“While travelling, we can get news and can stay connected with world and also get traffic jam and diversion alert. Everybody likes the radio and age is not a factor,” says RJ Munna`

About childhood memories of listening to the radio, Munna, who is from the City, “As a child I used to listen to Sulur Ganesh programme. I was not able to understand Hindi then and yet used to listen to Abdul Hameed songs. When there was sudden weather change we used to get cylone signal which was very amusing. The best part was hearing movie sound track which was completely a different experience.”

There has come in a lot of change, he admits and voice modulation is not that important these days. “My alma matter is just opposite Radio Mirchi office. During school days Radio Mirchi was one of the happening things in the city. My friends and I used to peak into Radio Mirchi office out of curiosity. During exam time TV cable connections were cut off and the only source of entertainment was the radio,” he adds.
