City police on Thursday registered an FIR against BJP State Vice President and the party’s candidate from the Coimbatore South constituency Vanathi srinivasan for allegedly campaigning inside a temple at Siddhapudhur in Coimbatore.
One of the star contestants of the BJP, Vanathi had gone to the Aiyappan temple on Thursday along with partymen to meet with devotees and pray for her victory in the elections.
However, she had allegedly distributed handouts to public inside the temple along with other party men.
Vanathi had also campaigned in Malayalam to Malayali devotees who had come to the temple according to a news article she had shared in her official Facebook page.
Further, she had also shared images of her talking over microphone with a party shawl with imprints of the party’s name and symbol inside an Amman Temple in Vaisiyal Street on the same day.
Since, it was a violation of the Model Code of Conduct as she had campaigned inside the temple, city police have registered an FIR against her under sections 171, 171 (F) and 181 of the Model Code of Conduct on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Vanathi Srinivasan clarified that she had not campaigned inside the temple but claimed that she was only meeting with the public who had come to the temple and shared her wishes.
