It was a weekday and a Government holiday. Yet the audience came to the venue on time to witness the annual day of Footloose, a city based dance school founded by Edwin. Footloose that was intercepted in the year 1992 has been hosting their annual day year after year. This year this dance school organized their 24th annual day at the Hindusthan College grounds. Around 250 students of Footloose participated in the annual day that was titled m2d which when broken down means more 2 (two) decades. Ever since it came into being, Footloose has to its credit trained more than 50,000 students in the various dance forms.

The event began with a prayer and the dance performances followed. Kathir who was dressed in a blazer and Nanditha who sported an ethnic outfit played perfect hosts and their conversation kept the audience thoroughly entertained. While the students took their positions on stage, the hosts gave the audience a glimpse of what to expect from the dance performance. Lights dimmed and with the music playing in the backdrop the dance performance began.

From the dance performances it was evident that the student truly enjoyed putting the show together as much as the audience enjoyed watching the performances. They put their best foot forward. There were 26 dance performances in all by students of Footloose. We are told that the students were trained for two months for their annual day by close to 15 dance professionals who are associated with footloose.

In several of the dance performances, clever use of props was made and full justice was done to the theme. Props such as archer, pom –poms came alive. The dance performance titled Bugs Bunny and Archies had the tiny tots. However, it was Vande Matarma dance performance that received a huge applause from the audience.

“My daughter Harshita D who is currently studying in college has been a student of Footloose since she was two-and-a-half-years old. My daughter grew up learning to dance with Footloose and she has matured as a dancer. I have never missed the annual day of this dance school. It is such a joy to see the talent of these children and adults.” Mini D, parent of one of the students says.

While the students of Footloose were getting ready to present their next dance performance, the hosts announced that they have a surprise performance for the audience. She is wheelchair bound, yet she never turns down requests to make a public appearance and she delivers a motivational talk or she sings some peppy numbers in the vernacular language or in Hindi. Swarna Latha founder of Swarga Foundation was entertaining the audience by singing some Tamil and Hindi numbers. Giving her perfect company shaking a leg were a few students of Footloose who danced on stage beside her.

This was followed by the dance performances. All in all the annual day was an evening that had all elements to keep the audience entertained.
