Governor inaugurates job fair for disabled

The Tamil Nadu Governor, K. Rosaiah, recently inaugurated a job fair for the disabled organised by the Vocational Rehabilitation Centre, here.

Appreciating the centre for assessing the needs of people with disabilities by concentrating on various aspects including evaluation of the potential, medical and psychological needs and rehabilitation plans, enhancement of functional abilities, providing counselling, providing training and job placements, he encouraged the disabled to identify their skills and opt for the right job.

“Many of you would have faced hurdles to acquire a degree and technical skill. Continue with patience and focus your strength and achieve your desired goal,” he told the participants.

“Economic rehabilitation is the ultimate need of any person with disabilities and sustenance of such a person in any job is based on the vocational plan. There are many opportunities in this growing economy. Channelize your energy in reaching goal,” Rosaiah added.

The Governor appealed to the participants to look for jobs beyond government sector. “There are many leading companies who employ people with disabilities. The government is also rewarding such firms. In the last three years alone, M/s Flex Chennai has employed more than 150 people with disabilities. The company was awarded the ‘Best Employer Award’ by the Government.”

The Vocational Rehabilitation Centre for Handicapped, Chennai has been organising job fairs and camps for the disabled along with the State and Central Governments.
