Illegal construction at Parsn Nanjundapuram sealed

The Coimbatore Corporation today sealed a building at Parsn Nanjundapuram following a High Court order that has sought the Corporation for a status report on an unauthorised construction within two weeks.

The petitioner S. Srinivasan of Parsn had moved HC challenging the two rooms of 200 sq ft constructed on a structure (which was part of group housing) by the respondent S. Sudharshan, without approval. The structure, however, was reportedly approved as part of group housing, 15 years ago. While the structure had approved access to the Parsn road, the owner wanted to make use of the Nanjundapuram road and hence had partly demolished the compound wall to enable entry, without approval.

Following the petition that was filed at the HC, the Court directed the Corporation to file a report within two weeks and stop further construction in the interim. On Monday, the Corporation asked those in the building to vacate and sealed the building.

S. Kanagasundaram, Technical Convener of Licensed Building Surveyors Association, stated that the Corporation may have sealed the unauthorised structure rather than the entire building. “Lock and Seal for buildings under violation is available under the Town and Country Planning Act (Section 56 and 57). But the sealing of building was done without prior notice,” he alleged.

This could be taken as a model case and action should also be taken on several other illegal constructions inside Parsn Nanjundapuram, residents added.
