Rex Ortho Hospital is venturing into the joint preservation research to create awareness among the public about the reason for joint pains or arthritis, its chief Dr. C. Rex said today.
People mostly came to doctors only with advanced arthritis to seek solution and invariably ended up going in for joint replacement surgery because of the terminal state of the joint, Dr. Rex told reporters here.
To prevent such a situation there was the need for research activities so that people may know the reason for the joint pain, how to prevent it from further deteriorating and what steps, including food habits, to be taken, he said.
Considering this, it is planned to start a “Centre for Joints Preservation and Research” on the hospital premises and necessary equipment worth Rs. 6 crore have already installed, he said.
This Centre, through research, would give necessary inputs to the general public so that they could take precautionary measures to prevent bone ailments, he said.
The Centre will be opened on April 10, the doctor said.
