Vasanth Jerome is just 24 years old. His face lights up with a broad smile when he shares with us that the seeds to plant trees were sowed in him by his parents. “I learnt the art of doing service and charity from my parents. They are the ones who motivated me to start the NGO Ver Foundation.” Vasanth says. It was in May last year that this youth founded this NGO. One of the activities of this organization is to plant more trees. In order to encourage people to do so, Ver Foundation has organized a marathon in Coimbatore city.

Currently, the foundation is inviting applicants from participants for their various run categories. Depending on their age, participants will be divided into three groups- above 10, 18 and 40 years. Post the marathon, Ver Foundation will plant about 100 saplings in Race Course area that lacks trees. The marathon is scheduled to take place on February 7.

This is the debut marathon that this foundation is organizing. They have in the past organized several events and drives. One such event is the planting of about 10,000 saplings on the Mettupalayam Road. This massive tree planting drive was organized last August with the participation of over 5,000 volunteers.
