Founded last year by Saravanan V., Meipporul NGO continues to work towards encouraging the public to adopt sustainable living and practice responsible utilization of natural resources.

The NGO is also trying to popularize organic methods of farming. We are told that so far 15 people have been trained and agricultural kits have been offered to these people, equipping them to start an organic farm.

The founder of the NGO shares that his aim is to reach out to the young people and involve them in organic farming, so that, by working together, a green revolution can be created. “The idea is to encourage people to follow a lifestyle that makes it possible for them to co-exist with nature. We are happy that we have trained more than a dozen people in the field of organic farming. We hope to train many more in the future.” Saravanan says.

In order to introduce youngsters to sustainable way of life, the students of a city-based college were taken on a day trip to Saravanan’s farm located in Sethumadai and Anamalai foothills. At the farm, the visitors observed and learnt how life can be lived with just the basic needs.

Another area that Meipporul is involved in is parenting. The NGO organizes regular sessions on parenting skills conducted by experts. Valuable tips on upbringing are offered to parents and, at the end of the session, the experts also clarify the doubts of the parents.

Last year Meipporul organized a summer camp for students of classes VI to XII. At the camp, children were taught science experiments the fun way.
