Minister of Municipal Administration and Rural Development SP Velumani on Sunday said that the State Government would give 100 per cent compensation to all the farmers affected by the drought.

Inspecting cultivated lands in the Thondamuthur constituency in villages including Devarayapuram and Vellimalai Pattanam, Velumani said that the Government was assessing all the damaged farms in order to give compensation.

“In Coimbatore alone, 276 out of 295 villages have been affected because of lack of rain. All types of crops have been damaged and the farmers are in a bad situation,” he said.

He further added that once the data about the total damage in the State was collected, it would be sent to Chief Minister’s consideration immediately so that the compensation amount reaches the farmers in time.

Reacting to a query from the farmers to put an end to the damage caused by wild animals, including elephants, wild boars and peafowl, the Minister said that the grievance would be reported to the Minister of Forest Department for consideration.

Deputy Speaker Pollachi V Jayaraman and District Collector T N Hariharan were present during the inspection.
