While most students and members of the Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam celebrated Valentines’ day along with the lovers in the city, members of religious outfits made equally interesting headlines with their “celebrations” on Sunday.
Cutting cakes along with the lovers who were at the VOC Park, the members of Student Federation of India condemned the religious outfits who protest against Valentine’s Day celebrations. “Celebrating something like this is a personal issue. Interfering with these celebrations is totally against democracy,” said one of the members.
They also alleged that such outfits are performing “marriage ceremonies” for animals, including dogs, and demanded that actions should be taken against those who involve in such acts. “They claim that thali is holy, but they go about tying it on dogs and insulting it,” another member said.
Members of the Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam also celebrated Valentine’s Day by giving flowers to lovers on the streets.
