Five organs were harvested from a businessman from Palakkad, Kerala, who was declared brain dead.

53-year old James, a businessman from Kerala, met with an accident at Palakkad on the New Year day. He suffered severe head injuries and was admitted to the Kovai Medical Center and Hospital (KMCH) here.

Doctors declared him brain dead when he failed to respond to treatment. The next day, his son Bijumon agreed to donate James’ organs.

A team of doctors from the Government hospital and KMCH harvested the kidneys, liver and eyes. One kidney and two eyes were sent to KG Hospital and Sankara Eye Hospital in Coimbatore. The other kidney and liver were taken for transplant by KMCH.
