Services of Mettupalayam-Udhagamandalam Nilgiris Mountain Rail (NMR) were cancelled today, following land slide and uprooting of trees on track enroute Coonoor.

Trees were found uprooted and fallen on track at various places between Mettupalayam and Coonoor, necessitating cancellation of the services for today, railway sources said.

The area is experiencing moderate to heavy rains, resulting in land slide and uproot of trees, they said adding restoration works are in progress and expected to be cleared by evening.

The Heritage NMR is the major tourist attraction during the summer season, when visitors from across the world throng Nilgiris District, which has large number of tourist spots.
