Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K. Palaniswami on Wednesday said the State Government will not issue permission for hydrocarbon/natural gas exploration in Neduvasal village in Pudukottai district.
Palaniswami gave the assurance to a delegation of protestors against the hydrocarbon project when they met him here.
Palaniswami said the State Government has not issued any licence to commercially extract natural gas at Neduvasal.
Farmers in Neduvasal village are protesting against the natural gas extraction project as it would affect their livelihood because the project would dry up ground water sources and also pollute the soil.
Pudukottai is around 390 km from here.
In a memorandum submitted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently, Palaniswami had requested the Central Government to stop the hydrocarbon project at Neduvasal.
