While discussing the ‘Current Trends in Novel Drug Delivery System – Supercritical Technology,’ Dr. M. Sreenivasa Reddy, Vice Principal and Head-Department of Pharmaceutics, Manipal College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Manipal, urged pharmaceutical students to come up with off-beat strategies to adopt new concepts in the drug industry. He shared with his audience an out-of-the-box concept of using supercritical fluids such as carbon-di-oxide to replace solvents in formulation of pharmaceuticals.
He was addressing a gathering of 120 academicians, professionals, and students at the one-day national seminar on ‘Emerging Trends in Novel Drug Delivery Systems,’ that was recently organized by the College of Pharmacy, Sri Ramakrishna Institute of Paramedical Sciences, Coimbatore.
In his presidential address, Chief Operating Officer of SNR Sons Charitable Trust, Coimbatore, V. Ramakrishna, threw light on the statistics of the Indian drug industry. He spoke about India’s position in the global pharmaceutical scenario, and the need for novel drug delivery systems and pharmaceutical nanotechnology in elevating the country’s status in the market.
At the daylong seminar, other subjects related to the drug industry, like ‘Mouth Dissolving Films – A Novel Approach to Oral drug delivery,’ ‘Current Trends in Novel Drug Delivery System – Supercritical Technology,’ and ‘Co-polymeric Micelle Nano Carriers for Targeted Drug Delivery’ were discussed.
