The Rs. 2,850 per tonne for sugarcane was not enough for the growers, PMK founder-leader, S. Ramadoss said here today.
The Centre had fixed Rs. 2,300 as Fair and Remunerative Price per tonne for sugarcane. Following this, the State Government announced Rs. 550 as the State Advised Price (SAP), taking it to Rs. 2,850 per tonne.
Replying to a specific question on the SAP, Ramadoss told reporters at Mettupalayam that it was not enough, considering the plight of growers.
His Party’s demand has been to fix the price at Rs.4,000 per tonne since long. If voted to power, the PMK Government would fix this amount, Ramadoss added.
