The lifeless body of a premature-born baby girl was recovered today from a garbage bin in Mettupalayam. It was found by the contingency workers during the morning shift.

The workers noticed stray dogs crowding around a garbage bin. On suspicion, they drove the dogs away and found the body of the premature baby. Police rushed to the spot and recovered the body, which was later sent to the government hospital for postmortem.

On questioning the staff of a nearby hospital, the police found that a woman, who was identified from the surveillance camera footage, had come on the night of January 3 for treatment, claiming that she had delivered a stillborn premature baby.

Police are questioning the woman to find out why she threw the baby’s body in the bin.
