With the worsening protests in Bengaluru today, the Tirupur Exporters Association (TEA) has expressed serious concerns that similar riots could spread to Tirupur if the Labour Ministry does not taken immediate steps to withdraw the controversial EPF notification.

Striking garment workers in Bengaluru took to the streets. The riots also led to untoward incidents, which has now created fears that such protests could spread to Tirupur too.

According to a statement made by the TEA president, A. Shaktivel, the amendments made to the Provident Fund withdrawals have already started to create problems in Tirupur with migrant workers from North India refusing to believe that the decision was imposed by the Government.

Shaktivel has appealed to the Union Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya to withdraw the notification immediately. Otherwise, he said, it would affect the workers as well as the foreign exchange earned by the garment units.
