The CITU wing of engineers’ association held a protest demanding to regulate the fuel price in tune with the global market prices.
The protest was held near the Thudiyalur bus stand on Friday to condemn the central government for not making the fuel available to the general public at international market prices, the CITU wing of Engineers’ Association demonstrated a protest.
Among their demands were legal and social security for migrant workers, regularizing temporary jobs, enforcing the 1970 regulatory act, and to fix a minimal wage of Rs. 15,000 per month.
The agitators also raised slogans denouncing, the anti-labour attitude of the central and state governments, and insisted on eliminating the contract labour, and offer jobs on permanent basis instead.
V. Perumal, the President of the Engineers’ Association, led the demonstration. Former Member of Parliament and Honorary President of the Association, U.K. Vellaiangiri presented the keynote. The secretary of the association, C. Duraisamy, Treasurer A.G. Subramaniam, and other leaders addressed the protesters.
