A doctor of a private scan centre in Mettupalayam has been detained on charges of sexual misconduct.

Acting on a complaint by the Medical Officer of the Mettupalayam Government Hospital, police has registered an FIR against Dr Dayanand of Sugam scan centre on Annur Road.

The doctor has allegedly misbehaved with a pregnant woman from Mettupalayam, who was referred by the government hospital for a scan of the abdomen at the centre.

After she complained to her husband about the misconduct, the couple returned to the centre along with other residents of the area and heard similar experiences from other women before handing over the doctor to the medical officer.

The government hospital and some private hospitals regularly refer patients to this centre, which has maternity related scan facilities.

S Basha will be one of the two residents who will sit on a fast tomorrow in front of the government hospital demanding better facilities at the hospital, which if provided, he says, no one will have to be left at the mercy of private medical centres.

In a dramatic twist, the doctor who was arrested complained of chest pain and was sent to the Mettupalayam GH for treatment. Though the echo was normal he continued to complain of pain and has been sent to Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital for treatment.

The people in the area allege that the doctor was pretending to escape from the clutches of law.
