Members of the Social Democratic Party of India staged a demonstration near the South Taluk Office here on Thursday, demanding a genuine probe into the alleged suicide of Rohit Vemula, a PhD student of the Hyderabad Central University.
Leading the agitation, A. Mustafa, the district chief of SDPI, said that those behind the suicide should be punished by law. “The incident clearly shows the anti-Dalit activities of the ruling BJP and Akhil Bhartiya Vidya Parishad (ABVP),” he alleged.
He further stated that the suicide was instigated by the government as his stipend was stopped about six months ago. “We demand a genuine investigation and both the Union Minister Dattatreya and the Vice Chancellor of the University should be arrested,” he said.
As many as 50 members of the organization participated in the agitation.
