Police are on the lookout for a man, who reportedly attempted to burn his wife to death by in his house in Pollachi.

Kumar, a resident of Kullakkapalayam near Pollachi, used to pick up quarrels with his wife frequently. On Monday night too both quarrelled over going on tour during the Pongal holiday, police said today.

Following this, Kumar poured kerosene on his wife, Umamaheswari, around 11 p.m. when she was sleeping and set her on fire. Then he fled the place, police said.

Hearing the screams, neighbours and the couple’s two children rushed to the room and put out the fire. Later she was admitted to the Government Hospital here.

With 60 per cent burns, Umamaheswari is being treated in the hospital, even as police are searching for Kumar.
