The state-level handball match for the visually-challenged persons was conducted at the Coimbatore Government Arts and Science College here today.
The tenth annual ceremony was conducted in order to honour the visually-challenged committee. Students from Chennai, Coimbatore, Villupuram, Kanchipuram, and Thanjavur participated.
R. Srinivasan, committee leader, said that the handball tournament for the visually-challenged is different from the normal game. In this game, the ball is scrolled under the net. The game was designed to encourage the visually-challenged to play different sports. The government should take steps to modify and popularise more such games, he said
The committee has plans to conduct cricket and chess tournaments as well.
The team from Thanjavur won the first place. Chennai was the runner-up. The trophy and cash prizes will be given on January 24.
